This is a Second World War manufactured German K98 dated 1943 that was made by Mauser - secret makers code "byf". The receiver bears the correct military acceptance stamp Eagle 135. Just visible on the stock below the upper Eagle acceptance stamp on the stock is a capital letter M for Kriegsmarine (Navy). Navy marked K98's from this period of the war are far less common. The majority of production was allocated to the army. The overall wear and patina to the metal work would be conclusive evidence that this rifle saw service with the German Navy. Deactivated with a working action.
